“People do not drift toward holiness. Apart from grace-driven effort, people do not gravitate toward godliness, prayer, obedience to Scripture, faith and delight in the Lord. We drift toward compromise and call it tolerance; we drift toward disobedience and call it freedom; we drift toward superstition and call it faith. We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation; we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into thinking we have escaped legalism; we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated.” D. A. Carson, For the Love of God
In some ways this qoute is inappropriately used out of context (I will try to get the book from amazon) but it conveys so much truth about the state of my heart. It painfully exposes the wrong leanings and attitutes towards selfishness and sinfullness.
It reminds me of the prophetic voices of the past that so inspired me in my early years: Tozer, Ravenhill and Keith Gren. Oh how we need His grace and Spirit to transform our hearts, minds and lifestyles!
Nice quote. Great to see you giving blogs another go. What are you using to add the pictures because they come through on my feed reader at their original size – huge
it has its own ‘add pic’ facility….alows you to resize it….pants not good…..
